“Then all the tribes of Israel came to David in Hevron and said, ‘Here, we are your own flesh and bone’.”-2 Samuel 5:1
Verse 1 shows elders from the northern tribes (the part of Israel once ruled by Saul and later Ishbosheth) coming to Hebron to agree with Judah to reunite as one kingdom under David.
The elders gave David four reasons why they thought this was the right thing to do.
First, David was already a king.
Even though he ruled only over Judah, he was respected as a monarchy, so the northern tribes felt no shame in joining under his rule.
Second, they reminded David they were family.
They were all descendants of Jacob, so they weren’t just followers—they were David’s relatives and deserved to be treated as such.
Third, they pointed out that David had led many of Israel’s battles, even when Saul was king.
In their eyes, David was already Israel’s real leader because of all the victories he won for them.
Fourth, they believed God had chosen David to be king over all of Israel.
Even though we don’t have a record of God announcing this directly, the people seemed to accept it as a fact, possibly passed down as a prophecy or common knowledge.
So what’s the takeaway here today?
The takeaway is that this scene is prophetic homies.
Here we see a uniting of ALL the tribes of Israel under ONE Messiah (anointed one)!
An event I believe we’re going to see repeat itself in the future.
Are you feeeeeeeeeeeling me here?!?!?!
