“David took for himself more concubines and wives in Yerushalayim after coming from Hevron, so that still more sons and daughters were born to David.”-2 Samuel 5:13
So verse 13 tells us what David did once he established Jerusalem as the capital and settled in the City of David.
We’re told he transferred his harem from Hebron to Jerusalem and added even more wives and concubines.
Now, a lot of folks misunderstand the role of a Biblical concubine.
They think concubines were sex slaves or something.
That wasn’t the case at all.
They were like a wife with a few key differences.
The first key difference is that they didn’t receive a KETUBAH, an official marriage document.
So a concubine was kind of like a 2nd class wife.
More often than not, especially for kings, she was a servant of a noblewoman the king married to establish an important political alliance with another king or ruler.
You should also know the list of David’s sons represents only the firstborn sons from each mother.
But these women had many other sons and daughters too.
David was building a dynasty of leaders loyal to only him and his kingdom.
This leads to our takeaway for today.
Messiah Yeshua also seeks to do the same.
He wishes to create a dynasty of loyal leaders for His soon-to-be-established kingdom.
Only members of his Kingdom will be born of the Spirit instead of flesh and blood.
Ya feel me?
See ya all next time.
