“The Spirit of Adonai spoke through me,
His word was on my tongue.”
-2 Samuel 23:2
We’re given some critical information in verse 2.
We’re told the “Spirit of Adonai” was speaking through David.
Do you know what that is in Hebrew?
It is the RUACH HAKODESH.
If you’ve ever been anywhere near a messianic congregation, you for sure have heard that expression before.
It’s the Hebrew for what we call the Holy Spirit.
That’s right.
David is saying the Holy Spirit spoke through him.
This is different than how the Lord communicated with Moses.
Moses received audible communication from the Almighty.
That didn’t happen with David.
David received words via divine revelation.
That’s why David can claim that the words coming out of his mouth were the Lord’s and not his own.
Things get even more exciting when we take a closer look at the Hebrew.
It says the RUACH of YAHWEH DABBAR dwelt in David.
That’s right.
Thousands of years before the event the Christians call Pentecost took place, the Holy Spirit was dwelling within men.
It wasn’t some New Testament innovation.
Onward.
We’re told God’s MILLAH was placed upon David’s tongue.
MILLAH means “word,” but it can also refer to a message from God.
When it says, ‘God put His MILLAH on David’s tongue,’ this means David was about to say something of divine importance.
Something like a NE’UM or oracle.
MILLAH also carries the idea of being a complete message.
There is a certain A-to-Z finality about it as opposed to being a quick saying or instruction.
Now here’s your takeaway.
MILLAH is the same word used in BRIT MILLAH, the covenant of circumcision.
Just as circumcision marks a permanent, life-changing promise between God and His people, the Lord’s millah on David’s tongue marks a permanent, life-changing message.
God’s words aren’t casual chatter.
They cut deep.
They shape destiny.
And they carry His covenant power.
When the Spirit puts a MILLAH on your tongue, it’s not you speaking.
It’s God’s life-changing truth speaking through you.
Ya feel me?
Done.
