“Here are David’s last words:
‘This is the speech of David, the son of Yishai,
the speech of the man who has been raised up,
the one anointed by the God of Ya‘akov,
the sweet singer of Israel.‘”
-2 Samuel 23:1
Verse 1 begins by telling us we’re about to be introduced to the speech of David.
The Hebrew word for “speech” used here is NE’UM.
This word carries a special nuance.
It doesn’t mean normal speech, like what we use in daily conversation.
It carries a strong prophetic sense to it, as if one is delivering a divinely inspired oracle.
Also, despite David’s boasts about being blameless, pure, and sinless, contained in 2nd Samuel Chapter 22, things begin on a humble note here.
David starts by telling us he was not born into royalty, nor did he earn his kingship through great deeds.
Rather, the Lord, for His own good reasons, raised him to be the King of Israel.
Onward, David is referred to as “the sweet singer” of Israel.
In Hebrew, this is NAIM ZAMIR.
These words also carry a special meaning.
David is portrayed as a gifted songwriter driven by his dedication to the Lord.
Indeed, his Psalms have moved the souls of believers across generations.
David possessed what we’d call today a “spiritual gift.”
Actually, the Lord bestowed upon David three gifts.
FIRST, in the political sphere, he was raised to be King of Israel.
SECOND, in the spiritual realm, he was anointed by God.
FINALLY, he was a poet and musician whose work remains unmatched in history.
The takeaway for today is to be reminded that the Lord also gifted you with certain talents and abilities.
What do you think they are?
Remember, a gift from the Lord is something he gives you to further His Kingdom.
What do you think it is?
As for me, I believe my gift is an undying and burning passion for Scripture…
And the ability to break it down into a fun and easy-to-understand manner for the average person.
I also think the Lord gave me a sort of ballsy-like courage to defy institutional gentile church doctrines (like the ridiculous trinity idea) that lie within the realm of pure booooooooooooooool sheeeeeeeeet without fear or favor.
Anyway, who cares about me, man?
How about you?
What do you think your gifts are?
Lemme know in the comments.
Really!
I’d love to hear them.
Shalom.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“There are different kinds of gifts,
but the same Spirit.

“We have different gifts,
according to the grace
given to each of us.”

the prophets, the evangelists,

to equip his people for works of service,

“Each of you should use whatever gift
you have received to serve others,
as faithful stewards of God’s grace
in its various forms.”

which was given you through prophecy
when the body of elders
laid their hands on you.”
