“You also freed me from the quarrels of my people.
You kept me to be the head of the nations;
A people I did not know now serve me.”
-2 Samuel 22:44
Verse 44 says that the Lord PALAT from the RIB of the AM.
PALAT means “delivered.”
RIB means “quarrels” (nothing to do with rib bones in the side of your body).
And AM is a term that usually refers to God’s chosen people.
So, what’s being said here is that the Lord will deliver David from any rebellion that erupts from within his kingdom.
In other words, David will be protected not just from outside Gentile powers but from domestic attacks led by internal Hebrew rivals.
Recall wicked men such as Saul, Achitofel, and even David’s own son Avishalom, who rose against David.
The Lord’s protective hand was so thorough that He protected David from BOTH outside and internal enemies, including members of his own family.
However, it is the next part of verse 44 that I find particularly inspiring.
We’re told that a people whom David did not know will serve him.
In other words, David views his authority over his own people, Israel, as the first baby step to him eventually taking dominion over the GOYIM or the Gentiles.
This is prophetic, folks!
Remember the words of prophecy Noah uttered after Ham violated him?
“Cursed be Canaan!
The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers.”
Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem!
May Canaan be the slave of Shem.
May God extend Japheth’s territory;
May Japheth live in the tents of Shem
And may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.”
-Genesis 9:25-27
The implications are clear.
It doesn’t matter what level of uncircumcised gentile you are.
Either way, you will come under the dominion of Israel.
And of course, this concept is also carried over into the New Testament.
Here are the words of the Apostle Paul as he proclaimed the gospel:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel.
For it is the power of God
unto salvation to every one that believeth,
to the Jew first,
and then to the Greek.”
-Romans 1:16
