There’s one concept I think believers struggle with more than any other:
It’s understanding how their actions for the Lord really matter.
Have you ever felt like you can never do enough for God?
Maybe you stress yourself out trying to be the “perfect” disciple.
You volunteer for every congregation activity, tithe more than feels comfortable, and always give more than you have.
Or maybe you’re at the other extreme.
You sit back, thinking it’s cool beans to do nothing because, after all, the New Testament says “our works are like filthy rags.”
So, how to best take a balanced approach toward this?
Well, homies, look no further than King David.
David gives us a practical model we can emulate in terms of understanding how our endeavors for the Lord play out in the divine scheme of things.
David’s life demonstrates we are NOT equal partners with the Lord.
Rather, it’s more like we’ve entered into a cooperative venture with God.
Ya feel me here, homie?
We have our role.
And the Lord has His.
Noah built the Ark.
God sent the Flood.
We’re like a car in the Lord’s hands.
Now, if a car does nothing but sit inside the garage all day, it’s pretty darn useless, ain’t it?
Yet, a car can’t operate without a master driving it towards its intended direction.
Ya feeling me again here, homie?
Without God guiding the vehicle…
Fatal crashes are inevitable.
So this is the ideal that David expresses in his inspiring Psalm here in 2nd Samuel 22.
David ain’t shy when it comes to boasting about what he’s done or feeling good about his wins.
Yet, it is always within the context of God…
How God gave him the purpose, the tools, and the victory itself
Finally, let me ask you this?
Who was the ultimate “vehicle” or “tool” in God’s hands?
Of course, it was His Messiah, Yeshua of Nazareth.
God’s son (not God Himself) always made it crystal clear that he was just a tool in His Father’s hands.
And was simply doing what his Father in Heaven was doing.
Again, are ya FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLING me here?!
Done.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Yeshua gave them this answer:
‘Very truly I tell you,
the Son can do nothing by himself;
he can do only what he sees
his Father doing,
because whatever the Father
does the Son also does.
For the Father loves the Son
and shows him all he does.
Yes, and he will show him
even greater works than these,
so that you will be amazed.'”
-John 5:19-20
