“You give me your shield,
which is salvation;
Your answers make me great.”
-2 Samuel 22:36
Yesterday, we talked about how prayer is our powerful bow of bronze that is most deadly in the hands of a trained prayer warrior.
Today, we complete that metaphor with verse 36, which speaks of the shield of salvation.
Specifically, David says, “You give me YOUR shield…which is salvation.”
What is the Hebrew word for salvation?
It is YESHUA.
That’s right.
Yeshua is our shield of salvation who protects us from the arrows of the adversary (satan).
Now, here’s the thing about this shield.
It isn’t something we can manufacture on our own.
We can’t merit it….
Design it…
Or conjure it up by mustering all the faith we possibly can.
It is a gift of grace from God that has been transported from the heavenly realms to our plane of existence to benefit us.
It is something only available from Yehovah, the Lord of Hosts.
This leads to our takeaway.
It’s found in the latter half of verse 36 where we’re told…
“Your answers make me great.”
I love this because it speaks of protection during spiritual warfare.
The enemy will try to attack us via a variety of psychological means:
“Don’t you know you’re going to hell for not caring for your aging mother in her elderly years?”
“God will never forgive you for all those whores you slept with.”
“If you deny Yeshua is God, you’re going to hell.”
And so on.
Satan will try to accuse you and do his darnedest to make you feel miserable and unworthy of heaven.
What will your answers will be to him?
It will be the shield of Yeshua David refers to in this Psalm.
That will be your shield of salvation.
Ya feel me?
Done.
