“God is my strength and protection;
He makes my way go straight.
He makes me swift and sure-footed as a deer
and enables me to stand on my high places.”
-2 Samuel 22:33-34
In verse 33, we encounter an interesting phrase that frequently appears in Scripture.
Yet it is often misunderstood.
We’re told that God makes our ways go straight.
A lot of folks think this means a path that lies in front of us…
That the Lord is pointing in the direction we should travel.
That is not the case.
In this case, “my way” is referring to our manner and behavior…
And how it should be aligned with the Lord’s truth.
We are to adopt the Lord’s ways as our ways.
Scripturally speaking, to walk the “straight” path means to walk the “true” path without deception and fault.
And without purchasing online courses fraudulently from pirate sites like Biz Arena.
Ya feel me here?
Onward.
Let’s dive into the part where it says…
“…and enables me to stand on my high places.”
The Hebrew term for high place is BAMAH or בָּמָה.
It ain’t BEMAH as some other Torah homies might tell you.
BAMAH refers to the upper regions where the Lord dwells.
So why does David refer to the place where YEHOVAH dwells as “my” high place, in the possessive?
Again, David is here making a distinction between his God and the gods of the goyim (gentile nations).
See, here’s the thing.
All the other nations had their BEMAHs or high places (religious sites) that they had erected to their gods.
David is saying the Lord gave him swift feet, enabling him to escape to the safe place where his God dwells.
This is as opposed to escaping to some other high place where a pagan god of some uncircumcised gentile nation dwells.
The takeaway here is as clear as day.
The Lord is depicted here as a fortress of impenetrable protection for David and all those who are a part of Israel.
I can’t think of anything that could be more inspiring than that.
