“Yo’av went inside to the king and said, ‘Today you made all your servants feel ashamed. They saved your life today, and the lives of your sons, daughters, wives, and concubines.'”-2 Samuel 19:6
What do you do if, as the army’s general, you’ve crushed a rebellion by killing its leader, only to face a king who weeps because that leader was his son?
You hold a private meeting with the king and give him a serious piece of your mind.
That’s what you do.
And that’s exactly what Joab did.
Joab had been 2nd in command and had led David’s military for over 2 decades.
He felt duty-bound to let the king know he had his priorities seriously reversed by weeping over his son.
He accused David of hating those who love him and loving those who hate him.
The words “love” and “hate” here are not referring to emotions.
They are political terms meaning “loyal” and “disloyal.”
Yo’av doesn’t mince his words and tells David he would’ve been happier had Absalom survived and all of the men loyal to him had been killed, and the kingdom lost.
In verse 8, David finally came to his senses and realized that if he didn’t stop his whining nonsense, he could very well end up with no army at all.
So he picked himself up and went to the city gates as a public display of support for his men.
But let’s be honest, he was pretty much still going through the motions at this time.
This leads us to our takeaway.
Yo’av is expressing an important truth that I think we’ve lost touch with in our current political climate.
In a battle between good and evil, only ONE side can win.
There ain’t no middle ground.
You can’t quell a rebellion without disposing of the chief architect of the rebellion itself.
And if that chief architect happens to be your son, well, that’s just too bad, homies.
He needs to be done away with.
Israel understands this truth well, as evidenced by their recent attack in Qatar, where they, in one deadly blow, took out several Hamas leaders without hesitation.
If you wanna kill an evil snake, you’ve gotta completely sever its head from its body.
You don’t enter into peace negotiations with the damn thing.
Unfortunately, this seems to be a truth the Western world has completely forgotten.
That’s why we end up fighting the same wars multiple times.
And keep having to deal with the same wicked dictators over and over and over again through ridiculous peace talks.
The result has been a great loss of life to the soldiers involved and the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians.
We don’t even view conflict from the perspective of good and evil anymore.
Everything is now couched in vague and amorphous social ideology or political terms.
The sad truth is, David had turned into a politician of the worst kind.
He was more focused on the nuances of one outcome versus another instead of a clear right and wrong.
But Joab didn’t have time for any of that crap.
Joab understood that a decisive victory was all that mattered.
And that’s your takeaway for today.
In an anti-Semitic world where retarded “Free Palestine” protestors are given free rein to spread their stupidity and hate, we need leaders who stand for unbiased, objective morality.
Netanyahu understands this truth well.
That’s what I love about him.
He not only understands this truth…
He VIGOROUSLY acts on it.
In fact, right now, I’d say Israel is the only remaining light in the world…
As God intended His Nation to be.
Ya feel me?
Done.
