“The king started back and arrived at the Yarden, while Y’hudah came to Gilgal in order to meet the king and bring the king over the Yarden.”-2 Samuel 19:16
As David returns to Jerusalem, he once again bumps into Shimei.
He was the old man from the tribe of Benjamin who, just a few weeks earlier, had cursed David and hurled rocks and dirt at him.
What’s happening here is that David is encountering the same group of people he met when he had fled Jerusalem.
The entire process is reversed as David’s restoration takes place.
At this point, we’re given another amazing prophetic snapshot pointing to Yeshua’s return to the land of Israel and to his people.
Take a look at these verses:
“At that time, if someone says to you,
‘Look! Here’s the Messiah!’ or,
‘There he is!’ Don’t believe him.
For there will appear false Messiahs
and false prophets performing great miracles
— amazing things! —
so as to fool even the chosen, if possible.
There! I have told you in advance!
So if people say to you,
‘Listen! He’s out in the desert!’
don’t go; or, ‘Look!
He’s hidden away in a secret room!’
Don’t believe it.
For when the Son of Man does come,
it will be like lightning that flashes
out of the east and fills the sky
to the western horizon.”
-Matthew 24:23-27
Note, we’re told Yeshua’s return will be as lightning flashing from the east towards the west.
This part has always puzzled a lot of folks.
When does lightning only flash from east to west?
That’s not true in Israel, Tokyo, or any other part of the world, for that matter.
Lightning can and does flash in any direction…east to west, west to east, north to south, or even from the ground up into the clouds.
Ya feeling me here, homies?
Also, it’s not like this is some ancient Hebraic idiom or something.
It isn’t.
You won’t find any evidence anywhere that this is an old saying rooted in Jewish tradition.
Rather, this statement is a prophecy!
But prophetic of what?
So here we have David returning to Jerusalem.
The key question is from which direction?
The answer is from the east to the west.
And so also, will the resurrected Messiah return to his throne, from east to west.
I’ve spoken about this before, way back when we were in the Book of Genesis, and you can read my previous article on the subject HERE.
The bottom line is that whenever we come across the direction east in the Scriptures, our spider senses should perk up.
It always points to something of great spiritual significance.
In this case, I do not doubt that Yeshua’s return is being foreshadowed here in David’s return to Jerusalem, right down to the very direction.
Done.
