“Then Hushai said to Tzadok and Evyatar the cohanim, ‘Achitofel gave such-and-such advice to Avshalom and the leaders of Isra’el, but I advised so and so. Now therefore send quickly and tell David, ‘Don’t stay tonight in the desert plains; but, whatever it takes, move on from there! Otherwise, the king and all the people with him will be engulfed.'”-2 Samuel 17:15-16
As further evidence of the Lord working behind the scenes, Hushai approaches the two High Priests of Israel, Tzadok and Evyatar, to trip up Absalom.
Recall that David ordered them to stay behind in Jerusalem to be spies for him.
Hushai now orders them to get the word out to David to move on from wherever he is camped.
To make sure David got the message, the High Priests had hired a female messenger to tell their sons Y’honatan and Achima’atz what was going on.
They were staying at a place right outside the city walls near a spring called En-Rogel.
It was located on the edge of the Mount of Olives.
Now here’s the thing.
Hushai told the priests BOTH plans.
He told them what he had instructed Absalom, as well as Achitofel’s proposal.
This was smart.
Why?
Because there was no way of knowing for sure which plan Absalom would choose to put into action.
And that’s your takeaway for today.
When fighting an enemy…
Or doing anything in life for that matter…
It can’t hurt to be thorough.
It could very well save your life.
Ya feel me?
Never leave survival up to chance.
So tuck that nugget of wisdom into your back pocket.
And see ya all next time!
