“After David had arrived in Machanayim, Shovi the son of Nachash, from Rabbah of the people of ‘Amon; Machir the son of ‘Ammi’el from Lo-D’var and Barzillai the Gil‘adi from Roglim brought beds, basins, clay pots, wheat, barley, flour, roasted grain, beans, lentils, roasted millet, honey, curdled milk, sheep and cheese made of cow’s milk for David and the people with him to eat; because they said, ‘These people are hungry, tired and thirsty from the desert.'”-2 Samuel 17:27-29
In verse 27, we’re told that three high-profile men went out of their way to provide David with an abundance of supplies.
Of course, it wasn’t literally just three.
Most Jewish scholars say each of these men represented a category of people who chose to side with David.
Shovi came from Rabbah, the capital of Amon.
He was related to David, but more like a distant cousin from the borderlands.
Even though his people were Gentiles, they trusted David and wanted him as their ally.
Then there was Machir from Lo-D’var.
He used to support King Saul, but now he and his group had switched loyalties over to David.
Finally, there was Barzillai from Gilead.
He was a wealthy landowner who represented the other landowners in the region who felt their interests would best be served if David stayed king.
The point being made here is that David wasn’t alone.
Despite his seasoned age and damaged reputation from the Bathsheba affair, not everyone was ready to hand the crown over to Absalom.
Many clans still sided with David.
So the supplies they brought were accompanied by an upstanding group of folks who were ready to fight alongside him.
What’s the takeaway that can be extracted from this?
Simple.
When you’re going through hard times…
And when your reputation takes a hit…
It’s easy to think everyone has written you off.
But David’s story shows that God always leaves you with allies…
Even in your darkest moments.
And even if you feel everyone in the world has abandoned you.
You may not have the crowd…
But God will supply the resources you need to get you to where you need to go.
Ya feel me?
Done.
NEXT TIME WE BEGIN 2 SAMUEL CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Perfect WORD for today … With GOD / G-D on your side, one is NEVER ALONE… It was on 11.7.2023 – exactly 30 days after 10.7.23 – the invasion of HAMAS & the taking of 1200 + HOSTAGES – the biggest tragedy since WORLD WAR II… THAT DAY. The LORD gave me TWO WORDS: “STUDY JESHURUN” . I attended a Conservative Synagogue in those days – ADATH JESHURUN CONGREGATION – RABBI HAROLD KRAVITZ.. and I always wondered about JESHURUN but never checked… HE spoke & I listened. FOR I WILL POUR WATER ON THE THIRSTY LAND, AND STREAMS ON THE DRY GROUND; I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT ON YOUR OFFSPRING, AND MY BLESSINGS ON YOUR DSCENDANTS. THEY WILL SPRING UP LIKE GRASS IN A MEADOW, LIKE POPLAR TREES BY FLOWING STREAMS. SOME WILL SAY: “I BELONG TO THE LORD” ; OTHERS WILL CALL THEMSELVES BY THE NAME OF JACOB; STILL OTHERS WILL WRITE ON THEIR HAND, “THE LORD’S” AND WILL TAKE THE NAME ISRAEL . KEEP READING ALL OF ISAIAH 44 !!! AND YOU, JESHURUN, WHOM I HAVE CHOSEN:”… “JESHURUN IS A POETIC NAME FOR THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL WHAT A TREASURE IS THIS GOD OF JESHURUN – STUDY IT. BELIEVE IT. LIVE IT.
