“The king said to Tzadok, ‘Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in Adonai’s sight, he will bring me back and show me both it and the place where it is kept.“-2 Samuel 15:25
So David orders Tzadok and Evyatar (the two high priests) to take the Ark back to Jerusalem.
There were two reasons for doing this, one devious and one righteous.
The devious reason is that these two high priests, as well as their two sons, would be able to double as spies and be loyal eyes and ears for David while they were serving under Absalom.
The other righteous reason is that if it was God’s Will that David be ousted from the throne, then he didn’t deserve to be in the presence of the holy Ark anyway.
Ya feel me here?
The Ark wasn’t just reserved for royalty.
It was for all Israel.
Avishalom would need the Ark to lead the people.
So once that piece of business was settled, David and the crowd kept moving.
They ascended the road known as the Way of the Wild Olive Trees and kept climbing up the Mount of Olives.
Everyone was crying.
Their heads were covered, and they walked barefoot.
Yesterday, I referred to the group of people as a “grieving procession,” and that’s really what this was.
It was a sad, heavy moment.
Alrighty, let’s switch over to the takeaway.
Here, we see David’s humility in action.
He didn’t cling to power.
He didn’t treat the Ark like a lucky charm or a trophy for kings.
He knew the Ark belonged to God and all Israel, not just to him.
Now that’s real humility.
Honoring God means letting go of what you want…
And trusting Him to decide what stays and what goes in your life.
If Adonai wanted David back on the throne, He’d make it happen.
And if not?
David was cool with that, too.
Ya feel me, homies?
