“Why is it, then, that you have produced a situation exactly like this against God’s people? By saying what you have said, the king has virtually incriminated himself, in that the king does not bring home again the son he banished.”-2 Samuel 14:13
The instant David ruled that he would pardon the son who had murdered his brother, he had set a trap for himself.
The clever woman of Tekoa then asked David…
“Well, homie, why don’t you apply the same logic to the situation concerning your son Absalom?”
She’s basically saying:
“Look, you promised to protect my son even though he killed his brother.
You did that to help one widow and honor her dead husband.
So if that’s your judgment, then shouldn’t you forgive your own son, Avishalom, too?
It would be better for all of Israel if he came home instead of being punished by the Law.”
Of course, David has no answer to her line of reasoning.
Lest he make himself out to be a hypocrite.
From verse 14, the woman continues her argument by reasoning that, since we all die anyway, David didn’t need to put her son to death.
Now let’s stop right there for a sec.
I dunno if you realized it.
But the woman has just put forth the biggest booooool sheeeeeet argument for humanitarianism of all time.
She’s saying men shouldn’t take life…
They should resist that urge.
Instead, they should do everything to preserve life.
Even if the life being preserved happens to be a murderous scoundrel.
Wanna know something interesting?
This is the same argument the Enlightenment philosophers so loved and promoted.
Why?
Because it opposed the Scriptures.
But here’s what’s worse.
Many Christians have also fallen for this crock of bull dung.
Why?
Because it sounds so lovey-dovey and sweet and sentimental.
See, that’s the problem when you’re not grounded in the Word.
And when I say the Word…
I ain’t talking about the New Testament, homies.
I’m talking about the Hebrew Bible.
The Law and the prophets, which Yeshua said he NEVER came to abolish or overturn.
The argument of the woman of Tekoa runs completely counter to what God commanded in the Scriptures.
God commands that the murderer be put to death so that innocent life may be protected.
When we don’t eliminate murderers from our midst, this also leads to a broken relationship with our Father in Heaven.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.
We are commanded to purge the wickedness from our society lest we be overtaken by misery and then eventually eternal death.
Ya feel me?
Over and out.
