“Now Avshalom the son of David
had a beautiful sister named Tamar.
Some time after the previous events,
Amnon, the son of David
fell in love with her.“
-2 Samuel 13:1
In earlier lessons, I’ve called out how the Rabbis of old, through some rather creative theological gymnastics, make David out to be a perfect man who never sinned…
Kind of like how Christians view their “Jesus.”
It doesn’t matter what the Scripture says….
David is protected…
And God’s Word is bent upside down and backwards to fit their agenda.
Now, this ain’t an attack against Judaism or anything…
It’s a beautiful religion…
And during certain times of the year, I hook up with my Jewish brothers and sisters to observe the Biblical feasts…
But I gotta call a spade a spade here, homies.
When it comes to the story of David, I believe certain strands of Judaism have done violence to the Scriptures.
This leads me to my next point.
Some Rabbis have also done violence to the first verse of 2nd Samuel Chapter 13.
Despite verse 1 making it super clear that Absalom and Tamar were full brother and sister…
And had the same dad and mom…
Some Rabbis stretch things to say otherwise.
They claim all three—Absalom, Tamar, and Amnon—had the same dad (David) but different moms…
So they were only step-siblings.
One Rabbi, Mahari Kara, even said Absalom and Tamar had the same mom, Maacah…
But that Tamar wasn’t David’s daughter…
He claims she had a different dad!
What’s the goal of all this theological creativity?
Again, they’re trying to make David look innocent.
They also want it to seem like Amnon could’ve married Tamar…
So what he did wouldn’t seem that bad.
Ya see what I’m getting at?
If Tamar wasn’t really related to Amnon…
Then it wouldn’t count as incest.
Thus, the marriage would’ve “fixed” everything.
Honestly, this sounds fishy…
Kind of like how the Rabbis say there was some ruling that says while Uriyah was serving as a soldier on the battlefield…
He wasn’t married to Bathsheba during that time.
Again, I don’t buy it.
At face value, don’t you think these ideas sound made-up to uphold a certain agenda or doctrine?
Again, I ain’t attacking Judaism or the Rabbis here.
The gentile church has done much worse with its anti-Semitic doctrines over the past two centuries.
There’s plenty of blame to go around on both sides.
That said.
Here’s my conclusion on the matter.
I’m gonna be operating under the assumption that Absalom and Tamar are one hundred percent full brother and full sister…
That their father was King David…
And not fall for any of this half-brother nonsense.
Ya feel me?
Done.
