“But then Yonadav, the son of Shim‘ah, David’s brother, spoke up; he said, ‘My lord shouldn’t think they have killed all the young men, the king’s sons. Only Amnon is dead; for Avshalom has meant to do this ever since the day he raped his sister Tamar. So my lord the king shouldn’t take it as seriously as if all the king’s sons are dead; only Amnon is dead.’”-2 Samuel 13:32-33
Let’s explore the devious villain Yonadav a bit more.
He was a bold character.
He had no qualms about letting David know that he understood the situation surrounding his children more than he did.
He knew the REAL reason why Amnon was assassinated.
He told David it was simply an honor killing…
And that Avishalom instigated it to avenge his sister’s rape.
However, unbeknownst to Yonadav, nothing he was saying was comforting to David.
Why?
Because David recognized that everything unfolding in his life was the divine curse for the sins he had committed against the innocent Uriah.
Two things hit David hard like a guillotine.
First, he realized he had paved the way for his first son, Amnon’s death, when he ordered Amnon and all his sons to go to the sheep-shearing party.
Second, his heart must have frozen when he heard the words, “Only Amnon is dead.”
This rang just as cold and heartless as when David told Joab:
“Don’t let this matter get you down;
The sword devours in one way or another.”
Recall these were the words he casually uttered after hearing that innocent Hebrew soldiers had been slaughtered as part of the collateral damage to get Uriah out of the way.
Deep down, David knew what was happening.
Divine chickens were coming home to roost…
And they were clucking like crazy.
God’s prophetic message to David that “The sword will never leave your house” was being fulfilled in many ways, and he could hardly take it anymore.
The takeaway here is pretty clear.
Have you ever experienced a series of unfortunate events in your life?
It seemed like no matter what you did…
Or no matter how hard you prayed…
Nothing seemed to go well with you.
Promising business deals fell through…
Financial and marriage troubles arose (these two often go hand in hand)…
You came down with a series of illnesses.
Look, as harsh as this sounds…
It could be your past sins coming home to roost…
All of those past porno binges you engaged in…
All of those whores you banged in the backstreets of Bangkok…
All of the people you treated cruelly in the past…
All of those times you lied and cheated on others…
They could be more directly connected to your current calamities than you realize.
Sure, you may be forgiven in the afterlife as David was…
But there are some earthly consequences you may never be able to avert, no matter what you do or how hard you pray.
Ya feel me?
That’s why if you find yourself in a hole in your life…
Stop digging!
Just as a type 2 diabetic whose blood sugar levels are skyrocketing to the moon needs to change his eating patterns IMMEDIATELY…
So too, do you need to stop your sinful behavior, whatever it may be.
Or there’s gonna be some painful consequences to pay on this side of heaven.
Whoever has ears to hear, LISTEN!

“The thief cometh not but to steal
and to kill and to destroy.
I am come that they might have life,
and that they might have it more abundantly.”
