“Adonai sent Natan to David. He came and said to him, In a certain city there were two men, one rich, the other poor.'”-2 Samuel 12:1
In our world, men of power seem to get away with committing the most grievous of crimes.
King David was no exception.
He had committed adultery and murder…
Crimes that, per the Torah, were capital offenses.
Yet who was gonna call him on the carpet for his crimes?
The answer is no one…
Unless, of course, an insurrection or something occurred.
But that wasn’t gonna happen given the circumstances.
Israel was currently fighting a war with multiple enemies on multiple fronts…
And despite David’s questionable behavior…
The truth is, most of Israel wanted David to remain king.
There weren’t any other viable contenders for Israel’s throne at this time.
So here’s what you need to understand.
The Law of Moses that governed civil behavior…
This code was executed by the courts and other human authorities.
However, given that David was king…
And was thus the highest power in the land…
This civil legal code would NOT be applied to him.
However, did this mean he would escape divine justice?
The answer is NO.
Because while man may escape civil justice executed by human authorities.
He cannot and will not be able to escape divine justice.
Divine justice is something the Lord carries out Himself.
And that’s your takeaway for today.
We often complain about how men of power escape justice…
And seem to get away with the most vile of crimes.
The truth is…
And it hurts me to say this…
Yes, it’s true…
In our world…
Men of power DO get away with committing the most horrific of crimes…
But the catch is they’re only escaping human justice…
They will NOT be able to escape divine justice when the time comes…
That’s where they make gargantuan calculation errors…
Errors that could very well cost them their souls for all eternity.
Let him who has ears to hear, listen.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“For He has set a day when
he will judge the world with justice
by the man he has appointed.
He has given proof of this to
everyone by raising him from the dead.”
