As we finish up 2nd Samuel Chapter 12…
Here’s the big takeaway we need to take to heart…
Yes, by His Grace, the Lord forgave David for his sins…
However, at the same time…
Neither he…
Nor his family…
Nor his kingdom…
Would ever fully recover from the affair with Bathsheba.
This is something we need to take to heart.
Moving forward, David’s life will be marked by a series of heartbreaks and disasters.
And it will all be coming from the same God who had already forgiven him.
This would be no mystery to David.
He would be painfully aware that the source of his troubles was divine judgment for what he did.
The lesson is clear.
A holy God cannot and will not overlook sin.
There is both a spiritual and earthly price to be paid.
Yeshua has paid the spiritual price if you have faith in him.
But don’t be so naive as to think there are no earthly consequences for your behavior.
There will be earthly justice.
It could be carried out by human governments (which the Lord set up for this purpose)…
Or it will be carried out by God Himself…
As we’re going to see happen with David in the next chapter.
So don’t fall prey to some doctrine that says you can sin mindlessly and not expect any consequences because Yeshua has paid the price for your sins.
I’ve seen too many people walk away from the faith when God’s heavy hand of judgment came down hard on them.
They wrongly assumed they could continue on with their fornicating ways without consequence…
And boy, did they have a rude awakening when they found out otherwise.
So let’s get this straight right now.
Yeshua’s sacrifice on the cross ain’t some spiritual vaccine that affords you immunity from the earthly repercussions of your shenanigans.
You will be punished.
Or if you prefer a softer word…
You will be DISCIPLINED for your sin.
We’re about to witness horror after horror visit David’s family.
So consider this to be a divine record…
And a WARNING!
When we choose to treat God’s Torah as irrelevant and insignificant to our lives…
The consequences are terrifying.
The sword would never leave David’s household because of what he did.
All he would ever experience in the remainder of his life was violence and death.
Let those who have ears to hear, LISTEN!
