There’s another historical factor we’d be remiss to overlook in our stories of David.
It’s generally assumed that he was king over a happily united Israel for several years.
However, if that’s the case, then why are the southern tribes (called “Judah”) and the northern tribes (called “Ephraim”) still referred to separately?
Well, here’s the reason.
The unity of the North and South was always on shaky ground, even under Solomon.
Eventually, this illusion was shattered when the North and South split.
The truth is ever since the 12 tribes left Egypt during the Exodus…
And ever since they first entered the Promised Land under Joshua’s leadership…
They had always divided themselves into tribal coalitions.
Again, the two biggest coalitions were the ten tribes in the northern region of Jerusalem…
And the two tribes (Judah and Benjamin but mostly Judah) in the South.
This seems to be the way of mankind since time memorial.
Even in the United States, there is a deep separation, both culturally and politically (heck, one would even argue linguistically) that splits the North and the South.
This isn’t even to mention the intense racial divisions that exist in the Americas.
Again, this seems to be the way of our kind since the beginning.
Ever since God scattered the human race at the Tower of Babel, mankind has been divided by skin color, language, and location.
These divisions cause conflicts that break out into wars.
The only problem is these divisions are an illusion.
Why?
Because we all stem from Adam and Eve.
In that sense, we are all sons of God with one Father in heaven.
So while nations may rise and fall…
And tribes may split and feud…
The truth remains!
Our divisions are surface-level.
Beneath the borders, the dialects, and the skin tones…
We are family.
But reuniting won’t happen by human effort alone.
True reconciliation only comes through unified faith in the Messiah…
Where Jew and Gentile…
North and South…
Black and white are made one.
In Him, we become a united spiritual Israel…
One great family with one Father in heaven.
I pray that day will come soon.

there is neither bond nor free,
there is neither male nor female:
for ye are all one in Messiah Yeshua“
