“David said to Avyatar the cohen, the son of Achimelekh, ‘Please bring the ritual vest here to me.’ Avyatar brought the vest to David. Then David consulted Adonai. He asked, ‘Should I go in pursuit of these raiders? Will I catch up with them?’ And [Adonai] answered him, ‘Go in pursuit, because you will overtake them and recover everyone and everything.‘”-1 Samuel 30:7-8
So after being threatened with stoning, David strengthened himself in the Lord.
He called the High Priest Avyatar over so he could determine God’s will through the Urim and Thummim (the two dice-like stones stored in the High Priest’s ephod).
Through the two divine stones, David asked God two questions.
Should he pursue the Amalekites who came and kidnapped their women and children?
And…
If he went after the Amalekites, would he succeed in recovering everyone and their belongings?
The answer to both questions was a YES!
So there are three awesome takeaways to be had here.
The first one is something I mentioned yesterday.
When in big trouble, seek God for the solution.
Don’t make Him the last resort.
The second lesson is to be found in verse 9.
“So David went, he and the
six hundred men with him.
They came to Vadi B’sor,
where those who were to
stay behind waited.”
Notice the three words I bolded.
The point is there was zero hesitation.
Once David got his answer from the Lord, he acted IMMEDIATELY.
Finally, the last takeaway is more of an observation, but it’s just as important.
Note how God responded instantly to David in contrast to the silent condemnation Saul received.
That was because God was with David, but He had departed from Saul.
This means If you’re gonna choose a leader, pick the one God is responding to.
Ya feel me?
See ya all next time.
