You know what’s interesting about David and Saul?
In many ways, these two men were alike.
Their behavior was at times selfish, rash, and cruel.
They both deceived others to protect themselves and get what they wanted.
And they both committed horrible sins against God and His Holy Torah.
Yet David was considered a man after the Lord’s own heart while Saul was condemned.
Why?
What was the big difference?
David was determined to stick with God even when he was sinning.
He always returned to God with a sincere heart of repentance no matter how horrible his behavior had been.
And trust me, David committed some horrific sins in his life.
Yet, he will go down in eternal history as a man of God.
Saul, on the other hand, thumbed his nose at God when confronted about his sin.
He chose to fight against God.
David was willing to HUMBLE himself before God, REPENT, and CHANGE his behavior.
Saul was not.
He became more defiant when called on the carpet for his behavior.
His attitude was since I’m the King of Israel, nobody’s gonna tell me what to do, not even God.
One man humbled himself and repented.
The other through his attitude and behavior gave God the middle finger.
That’s why David was a man after God’s heart, while Saul serves as a warning of what not to do to avoid being cursed.
Ya feel me?
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“If we claim to be without sin,
we deceive ourselves and
the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and purify
us from all unrighteousness.”
-1 John 1:8-9
“Or do you not know that wrongdoers
will not inherit the kingdom of God?
Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor
idolaters nor adulterers
nor men who have sex with men
nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards
nor slanderers nor swindlers
will inherit the kingdom of God.
And that is what some of you were.
But you were washed,
you were sanctified,
you were justified in the name
of the Lord Messiah Yeshua
and by the Spirit of our God.”
-1 Corinthians 6:9-11
