Ever heard of that branch of Protestant theology known as Calvinism?
One of its core tenets is the doctrine of predestination.
This belief asserts that God has eternally chosen those He will bring to Himself, not based on any foreseen merit or action on their part but purely out of His mercy and will.
Folks, I have to tell you, I think this doctrine is a bunch of boooooooooooool sheeeeeeeeeeeeet.
Some will look at Saul and David and say that Saul was predestined for eternal destruction and David was destined for eternal glory.
I don’t buy that nonsense for a minute.
Here’s the truth.
There’s a little bit of David in us…
And there’s a little bit of Saul in us.
Who among us will end up like Saul?
Or who will become like David?
The answer is it’s the result of our free will.
Our destinies aren’t set in stone from the beginning as the Calvinists assert.
Do you think Saul was condemned to become the Anti-king at birth?
That ain’t true.
Do you think David was born with the guarantee he would become Israel’s anointed king?
That also ain’t true.
See, here’s what ya gotta understand.
Both Saul and David knew the God of Israel intimately.
Both also strayed away from God more than once.
However, there is a HUGE difference between the two.
One was sincerely sorrowful for his sin and asked for forgiveness.
That man became God’s friend and one who followed after God’s heart.
The other was never sorry for his sin and was only interested in God when it was convenient for him.
This man became an enemy of God.
He was like a thief who only felt bad when he got caught.
So the takeaway…or I should say the question is which man will you become like?
Saul or David?
Do you sincerely want to follow God and obey His commandments?
Or are you just paying lip service to God for social approval purposes?
Are you going to be like Peter who denied Yeshua three times yet returned after sincere repentance?
Or are you going to be like Judas who appeared righteous right up to the moment he betrayed his master with a kiss?
The point is YOU have the freedom of choice.
It’s up to you…with an emphasis on the word YOU.
Ya feel me?
