“David had said, ‘What a waste it has been guarding everything this fellow has in the desert, so that nothing of his was missing! He has repaid me bad for good!’ Then he swore, ‘May God do the same and more to David’s enemies if I leave alive even one male of everything he owns.‘”-1 Samuel 25:21-22
Have you ever had a day when you were trapped in a negativity stream?
Nothing seemed to be going right…
And you kept groaning to yourself about one thing or another…
The weather was crappy…
You had some annoying pain in your shoulder…
You didn’t like how your boss looked at you that day at work…
And on and on.
That’s what David was doing in verse 21.
He was muttering and moaning about how he and his men spent great effort to guard Naval’s livestock…
Yet despite that, how was he rewarded?
He was insulted and treated as an escaped slave.
A psychologist would look at what David was doing and say he was letting the negative tapes in his head get the better of him.
That’s the correct picture we need to get here.
David was playing the victim.
He felt cheated and was letting his anger get the better of him over and over and over again.
One could say David was taking a sort of perverse pleasure in being pissed off here.
God knows I’ve known many people like that in my life.
Complaining has become a habit they just can’t let go of.
Make no bones about it folks, David was sinning here.
We also sin when we complain about things.
No matter what it might be…
Like the high cost of living, feeling overwhelmed, family conflicts, or whatever thing we’ve decided to let bother us.
Once we get on the negativity train, there’s no end to how far it can travel.
That’s why the solution is to jump off the negativity train and hop on board the gratitude train.
Once you do that, everything changes.
You go from being the victim to being a proactive and positive participant in life.
Ya feel me?
