“David said to Avigayil, ‘Blessed be Adonai the God of Israel, who sent you today to meet me;'”-1 Samuel 25:32
From verse 32, a trait of David emerges that must have greatly pleased the Lord.
It was…
HUMILITY.
David humbly accepts Avigayil’s pronouncements and tells her she is completely in the right…
And that he is completely in the wrong.
Wow!
This probably flies past us modern folks but what David did here is AMAZING!
Not only has he allowed a woman to correct him…
But in return, he bestowed compliments and blessings upon her.
In the ancient Middle East, such behavior would’ve been unthinkable.
Men take note.
This is the attitude you are to have towards a righteous woman.
At that moment, David realized that had Avigayil not been obedient to the Lord, the death sentence of blood guilt would’ve been upon him.
That would’ve spelled the end of his future.
David understood that Avigayil had saved him as much as she had saved her family.
Again, this is a trait of David that pleases our Father in Heaven to no end.
When we have done wrong…
Or are thinking about doing wrong…
And are confronted with it…
If we humbly repent…
And admit it is God who we have sinned against…
Forgiveness will be forthcoming.
A humble heart paves the way for true forgiveness.
Onward.
David accepted the generous gifts Avigayil brought him and assured her she could go back home in peace.
He had forgiven Naval (as much of a jerk as he was) and decided not to wage war against her home or her family.
When Abigail returned home, her insolent husband had no idea what had taken place.
He had no idea he had just escaped certain death…
Nor did he have any idea it was his wife who had saved his entire clan from destruction.
We’re told Naval was drunk out of his mind when his wife returned.
So Avigayil figured it’d be best to wait until morning to inform him of everything that had happened.
When morning came, Avigayil informed her husband of the recent events.
What happened next?
The arrogant Naval had a heart attack…
And within ten days, he was dead.
What Avigayil told David was correct…
And is best expressed in the following verse:
“Vengeance is Mine;
I will repay.
In due time their foot will slip
for their day of disaster is near,
and their doom is coming quickly.”
-Deuteronomy 32:35
Naval was killed by God instead of by David.
The Lord had executed perfect justice on behalf of His anointed servant.
The takeaway here is as clear as the blue sky on a sunny day.
Don’t take matters into your own hands and kill your enemies…
Step aside…
And let God kill them for you.
If every incarcerated murderer would’ve realized this truth…
They would NOT have been convicted of blood guilt…
And be rotting in prison to this very day.
Ya feel me?
