Then, when Adonai has done all the good to my lord that he has said about you and made you ruler over Isra’el,-1 Samuel 25:30-31
In verse 30, Abigail’s words demonstrate she is a prophetess of sorts.
She talks about a time when God will keep His promises to David about becoming the king of Israel.
She also refers to David as a NAGID.
You do remember what that word means, don’t you?
It means “King in waiting.”
In other words, God had chosen David to be the future king, but that had yet to become a reality.
There are two important takeaways here.
Notice how both Avigayil and David were destined to fulfill specific roles in their lives.
Yet both of them were unaware of God’s plans for them at the time.
Avigayil never thought of herself as a prophetess.
And David never thought of himself as a king.
Yet, over time, God’s plans for them would slowly but surely begin to crystalize.
I would say it is the same with us.
God has wonderful plans for our lives.
But it may take a long time for those plans to become a reality.
We have many examples of this phenomenon in Scripture.
For instance, Avraham and Sarah were an elderly couple way past their child-bearing years before they gave birth to the promised child, Isaac.
Joseph had to endure serious tragedies and prison before he rose to power in Egypt.
Moses was 80 years old before God called him to rescue His people from Pharaoh.
It could be the same with you.
Your circumstances may seem bleak at the moment.
But don’t lose faith.
Just as David was a king in waiting, God may have you waiting before He reverses your misfortune and transforms your current situation OVERNIGHT.
Ya feel me?
So I said there were two takeaways.
The second one is this:
David is now in greater danger of being tripped up by Satan than ever before.
Why?
Because he is on the verge of fulfilling God’s plans for his life.
The devil knows if he can tempt David to break God’s laws, his witness as the Lord’s anointed will be ruined.
And it is the same for us…
The adversary always makes extra effort to trip you up when you are trying to do great things for the Kingdom…
Or when you are on the verge of a spiritual breakthrough…
Remember Israel was resurrected as a nation on the heels of the holocaust.
Persecution is at its most intense just before God is going to do His greatest work.
So “be alert and of sober mind.”
Because “your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
Blessings and see you next time.
