So the next point I wanna discuss concerning Israel’s fallen state during Saul’s reign is how just how fractured the Levitical Priesthood had become.
For starters, there were TWO High Priests in existence.
Now if there were two high priests in existence…
That meant there were at least two sets of common priests in existence…
Each loyal to the sanctuary officiated over by their High Priest…
One from an illegitimate line…
And one from a legitimate line.
You know what’s sad and funny about this situation?
Ahimelech, the High Priest, and his underling priests at Nob were most likely viewed as the most legit and authoritative at this time…
Despite coming from the illegitimate line of Ithamar.
How and why did this happen?
The answer is simple.
Ahimelech descended from Eli who raised and mentored Samuel from childhood.
This meant that Samuel would have legitimized Ahimelech since he came from his mentor Eli.
So what’s the takeaway in all of this?
That God can sometimes legitimize what isn’t legit?
I guess that’s maybe one takeaway that emerges.
But a better way to phrase it is to say that…
Although God is perfectly capable of working through our imperfections…
He is in the process of straightening out the crooked roads…
He is preparing His followers for His Kingdom to come…
And in this Kingdom, there ain’t gonna be any sin or imperfections…
There ain’t gonna be two High Priests competing against each other…
Or a fractured priesthood…
Or multiple sanctuaries or temples located all over the place.
There is going to be ONE temple, ONE High Priest…
And ONE redeemed body of people who worship ONE God…
And not the freakin’ fractured ego-driven, maniacal mess we have today.
Ya feel me?
