“One of the servants of Sha’ul happened to be there that day, detained before Adonai. His name was Do’eg the Edomi, the head of Sha’ul’s shepherds.”-1 Samuel 21:8
Notice something interesting in verse 8.
While David was talking with Ahimelech, we’re told one of Saul’s servants named Doeg was nearby.
The Scripture identifies him as a gentile, an Edomite.
The bottom line is he was NOT a Hebrew.
So here’s a question for you.
How the heck is it appropriate that the King of Israel had chosen an uncircumcised heathen gentile to not only serve as his spy but also to be his chief henchman in charge of his bodyguards and flocks?
The answer is it’s NOT appropriate.
Well, come to think of it, maybe it was appropriate given that Saul was such an ungodly king.
The takeaway here is clear as day.
Ever since God divided the light away from the darkness in the first chapter of Genesis…
God’s chief attribute has always been one of division, separation, and election.
The Lord seeks to SEPARATE His people from the world.
Yet here we have the King Saul violating this principle by putting a gentile in a major position of power inside his royal court.
And isn’t this what happened when the gentiles took over the early Jewish Messianic church and turned it into the lawless institution it is today?
An institution that preaches the Messiah of Israel did away with the Laws of Israel…
An institution that preached it has replaced Israel…
An institution that eats and says prayers over foods the Messiah himself would never have eaten (like whatever happened to WWJD (what would Jesus do?)...
I could go on and on…
But I think you get the point.
In His own good timing, God will restore Israel to the head of all believers who truly and sincerely desire to obey Him…
And He will remove lawlessness from the land.
I’ll leave you with that today.
Later homies.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘
I never knew you!
Get away from me,
you workers of lawlessness!”
