Yesterday, I left you with the following:
“If we sin for what seems like a good reason, does that mean from God’s perspective it’s no longer sin?”
It’s a good question…
As I discussed yesterday, since we live in a fallen world, it’s impossible to perfectly obey all of God’s Law.
Why?
Because invariably one law will end up butting heads with another.
So you’ll be forced to choose the lesser of two evils.
Anyway, let’s get into it.
So does God still view sin as sin if our intentions are good?
Well, here’s the answer: YES.
That’s right homies.
Look, no matter how you slice it, a sin is still a sin.
But showing mercy to another person by taking sin upon our shoulders is the righteous thing to do in a sticky situation.
Our Father in Heaven expects this of us…
And isn’t that what Yeshua did for us on the cross?
“For he hath made him to be sin for us,
who knew no sin;
that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him.”
-2 Corinthians 5:21
This is also why Yeshua defended his disciples for plucking heads of grain on the Shabbat.
It also points to why Messiah’s sacrifice is necessary…
And it also demonstrates why there isn’t a human being in the world who can claim to be sinless.
I’m not talking about the abstract Christian idea that man is inherently sinful because Adam and Eve ate from the fruit of the tree.
I’m saying it in a real practical sense.
In a fallen world, we will encounter situations where we have to choose which commandment out of multiple commandments to break for the better good.
That’s why even if you follow the Letter of the Law to perfection, you’ll still end up sinning by breaking the Spirit of the Law.
On the other hand, when you obey the Spirit of the Law, you’ll end up sinning by breaking the Letter of the Law.
In a corrupted world, we can’t avoid this conflict.
The awesome news is that Messiah’s sacrifice pays for all of our sins…
Even those sins we committed in love and mercy.
But what’s even more awesome is in the coming Kingdom, this conflict between having to choose which commandments to break and keep will no longer exist.
The Torah will be in full effect…
The Temple will once again be erected…
But the conflict between God’s commands will cease to exist.
Why?
Because the corruption of the world along with the devil will be removed.
When that happens, we’re not gonna face these difficult decisions between having to choose which commandments to break or keep.
Because there won’t be sin, death, or sickness anymore.
So we won’t need an ambulance driver to rush to the hospital on Shabbat for example.
Sin will cease to exist.
Everything will be as the Lord intended for His People from the beginning.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“For in my inner being I delight in God’s law;
but I see another law at work in me,
waging war against the law of my mind
and making me a prisoner of the law
of sin at work within me.
What a wretched man I am!
Who will rescue me from this body
that is subject to death?
Thanks be to God, who delivers me
through Messiah Yeshua our Lord!”
-Romans 7:22-25
