Today we’re gonna wrap up our little study of Israel’s fallen state during Saul’s reign.
So let’s get on with the fifth and final point.
It is this.
The God of Israel had forever abandoned King Saul.
Another more interesting way to put it is to say…
The God of Israel had abandoned the King of Israel.
Hmm…
Doesn’t that sound weird and interesting?
So what did that mean for Saul (and boy do I feel sorry for him)?
It meant there was zero presence of God in his life -either outwardly or inwardly.
No freakin’ wonder Saul was in a constant state of depression, and paranoia not to mention his outright murderous hatred toward David.
See, here’s the thing.
From a spiritual perspective, Saul was no longer the legitimate king of Israel.
It was just a matter of time before the earthly political reality caught up to that spiritual truth.
What had been done in heaven, would eventually be done on earth…
No matter how big the gap was between the two.
There’s a lesson there.
If you’ve ever worried about circumstances that seem to show God’s promises aren’t gonna happen…
Do not fret or fear…
In His own good and perfect timing, God will bend earthly circumstances to conform to His divine will.
Saul was now a total enemy of God…
He had zero intention of giving up His throne…
And, as far as he was concerned, there wasn’t a snowball’s chance in hell he was gonna turn over his kingship to the man God had chosen to be the next king.
Saul was going to fight to his last breath for what he saw was rightfully his…
Even though it had been given to him by God…
And even though he knew deep down inside he had no chance of succeeding.
So that’s another takeaway to be gleaned.
Whatever earthly thing you’re desperately holding onto in this life that’s connected to your pride and ego…
Whether it’s money, sexual prowess, social status, or talent in some area...
Understand those things aren’t gonna last homie…
They will fade away with the winds of time…
I can do no better than to quote Solomon’s conclusion after he tried to find meaning in everything but God during his life.
“Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind.
For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.”
-Ecclesiastes12:13-14
Well, there you have it homies.
The ultimate purpose and duty of humanity is to keep God’s commandments.
On top of that, every deed, whether good or evil, will be brought into judgment.
Alrighty, I’m gonna call that a wrap.
I’ll see you all next time when we get back to our regularly scheduled programming.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“And the world is passing away,
and the lust of it;
but he who does the
will of God abides forever.”
