Have you ever felt like life was so unfair?
That despite your best efforts to do the right thing…
You ran into nothing but rejection, scorn, and criticism…
And then ended up exhausted and about to throw in the towel.
If you’ve ever felt that way, know you’re not alone.
David went through the same thing.
David fought Saul’s wars against the Philistines.
He helped soothe Saul’s depression with music.
He showed the king the greatest respect at all times.
Yet, despite his faithful service, how was David repaid?
He was now a fugitive on the run from a power-hungry and jealous despot who was determined to kill David no matter what the cost.
Here’s the thing…
And this is kind of ironic.
It was Saul who understood the situation much better than David.
Saul knew that unless David was stopped, his throne was doomed.
David, on the other hand, had no idea of the incredible honor God had bestowed upon him…
That he had been chosen to be the next king of Israel.
And that he would go down in history as a man who was after God’s own heart.
Since David was unaware of the true reality of the situation, his soul was in torment.
There’s a huge lesson here for us.
Many of the struggles we go through in life could be God working out His Divine Will through us.
We just don’t know it.
So we shake our fists at the heavens and cry out to the Lord “Why oh why have you let this happen to me?”
But here’s the thing.
Sometimes the Lord has decided we don’t need to know WHY we are suffering.
This is probably the greatest explanation of the hardships the Bible says believers will go through.
Despite our trials and tribulations…
Will we continue to TRUST that God is in control?
Even if things don’t make sense…
Even if life is unfair…
Even if we’re confused.
Or will we demand that God tell us WHY?
If you were ever on the verge of abandoning your faith because of unexplained hardship, know that you are not alone.
In many of the Psalms that David composed, he expressed a similar sentiment.
But…
And this is a key “but”…
At the end of the day…
Despite the anguish in David’s soul…
His pleadings and prayers concluded with a peaceful acceptance that He could trust God…
And that whatever was happening would turn out for the best in his life.
Let this be a lesson for us all.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“And we know that all things work
together for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called
according to his purpose.”
