“The next morning Y’honatan went out into the country at the time he had arranged with David, taking with him a young boy. He told the boy, ‘Now run and find the arrows I’m about to shoot.’ As the boy ran, he shot an arrow beyond him. When the boy reached the place where the arrow was that Y’honatan had shot, Y’honatan shouted at the boy, ‘Isn’t the arrow beyond you?’ Y’honatan continued shouting after the boy, ‘Quick! Hurry! Don’t just stand there!’ Y’honatan’s boy gathered the arrows and returned to his master, but the boy didn’t understand anything about the matter — only Y’honatan and David understood. Y’honatan gave his weapons to his boy and said to him, ‘Go, carry them to the city.'”-1 Samuel 20:35-40
After Jonathan’s violent encounter, when his father attempted to spear him with a javelin, all doubts were erased regarding Saul’s intent to kill David.
The only next step was for Jonathan to follow through with his plan to warn David using the arrow signals they had agreed on.
Now, I want you to catch an interesting pattern that’s revealed here.
Notice it was on the third day that Jonathan summoned his young servant boy, gathered his bow and arrows, and went out to the countryside to meet David where he was hiding.
Then, as part of the plan, notice it was three arrows that Jonathan shot out.
Finally, after Jonathan sent his servant back to the city of Gibeah, David emerged from hiding and then we’re told he “fell face down on the ground and prostrated himself three times.”
Here’s the thing.
In Scripture, the number three symbolizes divine influence.
When David emerged from his place of hiding, he was devastated.
Despite having done no wrong, he was now a hunted fugitive.
The takeaway here is simple.
In situations of great unfairness, God is aware of your plight.
He is still watching.
The repeated presence of threes in this situation was evidence of this fact.
I often experience the same thing in my life with the number seven.
Whenever I’m worried about something, God will often manifest a 7 in my life.
I call them winks from HaShem.
They let me know that no matter how bad circumstances may seem.
God is aware, He is still sovereign and will work out all things for the good.
How about you?
What are some supernatural ways God communicates to you when you’re going through tough times?
