“Y’honatan said to him, ‘Tomorrow is Rosh-Hodesh, and you will be missed because your seat will be empty.'”-1 Samuel 20:18
So the time for bold action has arrived.
To discover King Saul’s true intentions towards David, Jonathan and David decided that David would NOT attend the New Moon festive meal (ROSH CHODESH).
In turn, Jonathan will act like a spy and gather intel while David is in hiding.
Then on the 3rd day of the celebration, David will conceal himself behind a big stone in the countryside.
Jonathan will show up with a set of bow and arrows and a young servant boy.
Jonathan will shoot off some arrows and tell his servant to go run after them.
Jonathan’s instructions to the boy at this point are key.
If he tells the boy the arrows are near him, that’s the sign that everything is cool and David is NOT in danger.
On the other hand, if he says the arrows have landed far off in the distance, that’s David’s cue to run for his life.
Then Jonathan sealed the deal by declaring to David “Adonai is between you and me forever!”
So the takeaway for today is this.
To accomplish God’s Will for your life…
Sometimes you gotta be bold, brave, and take daring action…
Sometimes you gotta rock the boat man…
Look at how Jonathan and David were scheming against the king of Israel…
They were defying the most powerful political figure in Israel at the time.
The lesson to be learned is there are too many timid and conformist believers out there who are afraid to shake things up for the Kingdom.
Never forget it was eleven disciples and the Apostle Paul who turned the world upside down for the gospel.
None of this “lead a safe, secure, and quiet life” while you prepare for your retirement nonsense.
Go out with a bang…
Or don’t go out at all!
Ya feel me?!
Tehillah Jachin-Leask says
I timely word of encouragement as I attempt to teach our assembly to confess their sins, disappointments, anger and annoyances to one another, rather than seethe quietly. To grasp that loving one another is to correct and encourage each other to a ever growing standard of holiness and to not see it as “judgemental or being picked on. We all have to grow into His likeness
