“No one is as holy as Adonai,
because there is none
to compare with you,
no rock like our God.”
-1 Samuel 2:2
There’s something I’ve mentioned before but it bears repeating…
Pretty much every time we come across the word Adonai in our Bibles…
Or any of the other substitutionary titles such as HaShem, Elohim or the Lord, the original Hebrew is YAHWEH…
Or YEHOVAH depending on how you want to pronounce it.
And Hannah’s prayer is no exception.
Every verse in this Psalm…
Wherever we encounter the word ADONAI or Lord…
Hannah is actually saying God’s personal name YHVH out loud.
She felt totally justified in doing this.
It’s only us modern believers who decide to use a nickname in place of God’s real name…
I find this interesting because the Scripture commands us to call on the NAME of the Lord…
Which by the way means ONLY ONE THING.
It means YHVH or יהוה…
Because that’s God’s formal name…
It’s not Adonai or Yeshua.

I know His Name is Yahweh 💕💕 and I’m glad you reminded us of all the different names Yahweh has been called.

Hallelujah! We are to call upon His name, but how many people actually know His name? My latest book is titled “The Hidden Sacred Name of God–Restoration of God’s real name.” Adoni comes from Jewish tradition and fear that they are not worthy to call upon His real name. The Bible says we are to do so. Christians should have no fear. His authentic name actually appears in the Bible over 7,000 times! Man changed His name, not YAHWEH (my personal preference is YAHVAH but the point is made). Here’s the bonus when one train’s himself/herself to automatically substitute YAH or YAHWEH in the text when reading LORD, the context becomes more clear. Also, the same true with GOD. Ex.: “…the Lord God….” That is not redundant but actually reads “Master YAHWEH.”
May YAH bless each and every one of you. Do not run from His name. Thank you for reading this.

Thanks for your comment and sharing John.
Dr. Terry Hayes says
Paul the Apostle, a Jew, wrote in Romans 10:9,13 “..that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in your heart that God raise Him from the dead, you will be saved…For whoever calls on the name pf the Lord shall be saved”
He also wrote in Phil 2:9-11 “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”
Sounds like Paul knew Yeshua was Lord too? What do you say?

Sure it’s fine to address Yeshua as Adoni as a form of respect. But is he YAHWEH? Heck NO!

Hi Rich,
What are your thoughts on John 8:58? Did Jesus mistakenly give himself the name of YAHWEH? Or is there another interpretation?
Thank you
richoka says
I AM is NOT equivalent to YHVH. The Father’s Name is never applied to the son. NEVER!

Hi Rich,
Thanks for your reply! What are your thoughts then on what Jesus meant by saying “…before Abraham was, I am.”? Thanks again for your time. If you can point me to some additional reading that aligns with your perspective, I would be greatly appreciative.
God bless
