“I know what you are doing:
you are neither cold nor hot.
How I wish you were
either one or the other!
So, because you are lukewarm,
neither cold nor hot,
I will vomit you out of my mouth!
For you keep saying,
‘I am rich, I have gotten rich,
I don’t need a thing!’
You don’t know that
you are the one who is
wretched, pitiable, poor,
blind and naked!”
-Revelations 3:17
Finally, we come to community of Laodicea, the last church Yeshua is calling out in the 7 letters of Revelations.
Apparently, the main issue with this congregation is that they lost their passion and fire for the Lord.
It’s not like they gave up their faith…
But they let the things of the world dampen their enthusiasm for the things of God.
Folks like this may attend weekly worship services…
But that’s where their commitment ends…
There’s zero sense of obligation to serve the Lord or help to expand His Kingdom.
Honestly, I would say this represents the vast majority of believers in the world.
God is a part of their lives, but not a priority.
6 days a week are devoted to profiting and partying…
And then one day a week they go to their house of worship…
Where for the most part they just going through the motions until the service ends…
And then it’s back to their worldly business as usual.
Yeshua made it clear he ain’t happy with this lukewarm situation and clearly calls them out by saying…
“I know what you are doing:
you are neither cold nor hot.
How I wish you were
either one or the other!
So, because you are lukewarm,
neither cold nor hot,
I will vomit you out of my mouth!”
In many ways, the members of the congregation of Laodicea resemble the members of the congregation of Ephesus.
In both communities God is NOT a priority.
Instead He’s used as superficial window dressing to cover up the fact their congregations are nothing more than fleshly and ego-driven social clubs.
And speaking of the Laodicea church resembling the Ephesus church, keep in mind there will be overlap between the congregations Yeshua calls out in Revelations.
They don’t necessarily exist in mutually exclusive buckets.
So there you have it.
Which one of the 7 representative congregations have you been to exposed to?
Or are maybe still a part of?
Which one the congregations best describes the denomination you are or may have been associated with?
Which one of the congregations are your friends or family affiliated with?
These are important questions to ask…
Because God’s Word tell us there is a connection between one’s fruit and the tree it’s attached to.
Let him who has ears to hear let him hear.
