“…those who fight Adonai will be shattered;
he will thunder against them in heaven —
Adonai will judge the ends of the earth.
He will strengthen his king
and enhance the power of his anointed.”
-1 Samuel 2:10
Remember what the Hebrew word for Messiah is?
It’s MASHIACH or משיח.
And do you recall what it means literally?
It means “anointed”…
Which refers to a ritual of consecrating someone (or something) by putting holy oil upon it.
Now let’s connect what I just said with the last verse of Hannah’s prayer.
We’re told the Lord “will strengthen his king and enhance the power of his anointed“.
Did you catch that homies?
I’ve just shown you an awesome revelation the gentile church will NEVER get because they’ve thrown the “Old” Testament into the trash.
Notice how the part “enhance the power of his anointed” is connected to the future king of Israel?
This is the very first time in Scripture the idea the Messiah will also be a king of Israel is presented.
Which means Hannah’s prayer is key piece to our salvation history.
Are ya feeling me homeroos?!?!?!
This is freakin’ AMAZING!!!
And such a shame and such a tragedy the Christian church has totally overlooked this…
Because if they hadn’t, they’d have so much more respect for the foundation of God’s Word.
Onward.
There’s a sobering takeaway to be extracted from this.
The last line of Hannah’s prayer reveals the real purpose behind why God gave Hannah a child.
It was to anoint a king over Israel…
Which means Hannah’s painful desire to be relieved of her barren condition was a secondary issue from the Lord’s perspective.
The reason I’m pointing this out is because a lot of folks will read Hannah’s story and think that if they get down on their knees and pour their soul out to the Lord, their heartfelt prayers will automatically be answered.
I’m here to tell you that’s not always gonna be the case.
And I’m sure if you look back on your life and examine the results of all the prayers you’ve offered up to the Lord you’ll admit what I’m saying is true.
Unless your prayers happen to sync perfectly with what the Lord wants for your life and His salvation plans for mankind, your prayers will NOT always be answered.
A painful truth but I think it needs to said.
I leave you with these verses from the prophet Isaiah.
“’For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
and your ways are not my ways,” says Adonai.
‘As high as the sky is above the earth
are my ways higher than your ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For just as rain and snow fall from the sky
and do not return there, but water the earth,
causing it to bud and produce,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
so is my word that goes out from my mouth —
it will not return to me unfulfilled;
but it will accomplish what I intend,
and cause to succeed what I sent it to do.’”
-Isaiah 55:8-11
