“But when the messengers entered, there before them was the household idol in the bed, with the goat’s-hair quilt at its head. Sha’ul asked Mikhal, ‘Why did you deceive me this way and let my enemy go and escape?‘ Mikhal answered Sha’ul, ‘He threatened me, ‘Let me go, or I’ll kill you.’”-1 Samuel 19:16
Saul is boiling with rage and ready to explode.
He hauls his daughter Michal in for questioning and asks why in the world would she deceive his men and let David escape.
Wow!
Talk about pointing out the speck in someone else’s eye while ignoring the log in one’s own.
At this stage, Saul isn’t mincing words anymore.
He makes it crystal clear that David is the kingdom’s number one enemy and that he must be put to death.
No wonder Michal felt the need to lie to her seething father by saying David made her do what she did under the threat of death.
I can only imagine Saul’s disgust towards David intensifying as his own family becomes ever more entangled in this mess he’s in with his sworn enemy.
Okay, so let me remind you this story is laying down the pattern for the future battle between God’s Messiah and the anti-Messiah.
