“David would go out, and no matter where Sha’ul sent him, he was successful. Sha’ul put him in charge of the fighting men; all the people thought it good, and so did Sha’ul’s servants.”-1 Samuel 18:5
Wanna know how you can tell if you have a healthy relationship with someone?
Ask yourself how they react when you succeed greatly at something.
See, when Saul sent David out to war against the Philistines, we’re told no matter where he sent him, David triumphed.
Now, I dunno about you…
But you’d think a king would be proud one of his soldiers was so successful on the battlefield.
But not Saul.
Every victory that David achieved was another irritating jab that further increased Saul’s suspicions and paranoia of David.
The truth was Saul was secretly hoping David would be killed by the Philistines.
That’s why he kept sending David out to battle.
However, because David was so victorious, Saul had no choice but to keep raising David’s rank in the military to please his court and the people.
There was no denying David’s accomplishments.
Overnight, David became a superstar in Israel.
We’re told young women admirers would come out and sing…
“Sha’ul has killed his thousands,
but David his tens of thousands.”
I can imagine how this must have driven King Saul insane.
It was normal to give praise to a soldier…
But to glorify him above the King…
That was taking things too far.
One could say this was the final straw that broke Saul’s back concerning David.
In the world of kings and monarchs, ugly politics and power were the rule.
Saul had no choice but to find a way to get rid of this enemy who had suddenly arisen in his kingdom.
As we move forward, I want to remind you of the pattern being fleshed out before our eyes.
We’re witnessing the age-old conflict of God’s deliverer versus the anti-deliverer.
Or the king versus the anti-king…
Or to put it in simple terms, this is nothing less than the conflict between evil and good.
This pattern played out when Yeshua was born and the evil King Herod tried to destroy him by ordering all babies two years and younger to be killed.
It played out when before the start of his ministry Yeshua was confronted by Satan in the wilderness.
And it’s happening today as God’s Chosen people battle against Hamas.
To close, I wanna share a song by an Israeli band called Yamma Ensemble.
The song is simply called “King David”.
The repeating chorus in the song is the original Hebrew for…
“Sha’ul has killed his thousands,
but David his tens of thousands.”
The video has been viewed over 2 million times and contains the original Biblical Hebrew with subtitles.
I think you’re gonna love it.
Enjoy!
