“Meanwhile, the P’lishti approached
with his challenge every morning
and evening for forty days.”
-1 Samuel 17:16
I wanna show you something interesting about the number 40.
Take a look at these momentous Biblical events.
During the flood, it rained for 40 days and 40 nights…
Moses was on the mountain receiving God’s law for 40 days and 40 nights…
The Israelites wandered in the desert wilderness for 40 years…
Yeshua fasted for 40 days before facing down Satan…
After his resurrection, Yeshua was seen on the earth for 40 days…
As you can see, there’s something very special and significant about the number 40 in the Scriptures.
Can you guess what it is?
It always represents a period of testing and trial and ends with a period of restoration or revival.
You’ll see this pattern consistently from Genesis to Revelation.
In total, there are about ten events in Scripture where the number 40 plays a significant role.
And the story of David and Goliath is one of them.
Take a look at verse 16 here in chapter 17 of 1st Samuel.
We’re told Goliath taunted the Israelites for 40 days and 40 nights.
The spiritual message being communicated to us is that something of extreme importance is about to happen.
Israel has gone through a trial (via Goliath’s taunting) but something amazing is about to happen that will lead to her restoration.
See ya next time.
