When we last left off, David had just slain Goliath.
But, it bears repeating Goliath wasn’t David’s only enemy.
He still had to deal with the big elephant in the room.
Who am I talking about?
Of course, I’m referring to Saul, the illegitimate king of Israel.
See, Saul had zero intentions of giving up his throne despite God saying he was finished with him.
David is now the NAGID (king-in-waiting).
So it was just a matter of time before conflict broke out between the rightful king (David) and the now pretender to the throne (Saul).
This leads us to another God-pattern that will be fleshed out in the future.
Recall Saul is the prototype for the Anti-King or Anti-Christ.
Now I don’t wanna take that analogy too far.
I’m not saying that Saul was literally the ancient anti-Christ.
But he certainly embodied the spirit of evil that will represent the anti-Christ.
This same spirit is present and working in the world today.
In 1 John were told…
“Anti-Messiah is coming;
and in fact, many anti-Messiahs
have arisen now-“
The pattern I want you to catch is this:
On a surface level, those who possess the spirit of Anti-Messiah are indistinguishable from the body of believers.
At first glance, they behave, talk, and look like believers…
They even consider themselves to be believers.
But they’re NOT believers.
And so it was with Saul.
He looked like the legitimate king of Israel…
And he had deluded himself into thinking he was a part of Israel…
But he was not.
We’ll continue with this topic the next time we meet.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Children, this is the Last Hour.
You have heard that an
Anti-Messiah is coming;
and in fact, many anti-Messiahs
have arisen now-
which is how we know
that this is the Last Hour.
They went out from us,
but they weren’t part of us;
for had they been part of us,
they would have remained with us.”
-1 John 2:18-19
“Dear friends, don’t trust every spirit.
On the contrary, test the spirits
to see whether they are from God;
because many false prophets
have gone out into the world.
Here is how you recognize
the Spirit of God: every spirit
which acknowledges that
Yeshua the Messiah came as
a human being is from God,
and every spirit which does
not acknowledge Yeshua is
not from God- in fact, this
is the spirit of the Anti- Messiah.
You have heard that he is coming.
Well, he’s here now,
in the world already!”
-1 John 4:1-4
