“David got up early in the morning, left the sheep with a helper, took his load and set out, as Yishai had ordered him. He arrived at the barricade of the camp just as the troops were going out to their battle stations and shouting the war cry.”-1 Samuel 17:20
One way to tell if you’re filled with God’s Spirit and His purpose is to see how you feel when you wake up in the morning.
Are you filled with hope and excited to get on with the day?
Or instead, are you filled with dread and anxiety?
If the latter, then you’ve got some changes to make my friend.
Why do I bring this up?
Well, look at that part in verse 20 where it says “David got up early in the morning”.
That’s no throwaway phrase.
It’s not there to add color to this Biblical tale.
It has a very specific meaning and intent in the Scripture.
It shows that David was anxious to get on with his assigned work…
It also shows his early morning diligence was about to be rewarded in a divine way.
Also, notice that David had to prepare and load up his own food for the journey.
This is because Israel didn’t have a dedicated army or military infrastructure.
So each man had to bring his own food and his own weapons.
It’s kind of like the state of believers today I would say.
Now, how about you?
Did you get up early today filled with the power and purpose of God?
I did.
Writing this little post was one of the reasons that motivated me.
But I’ll be honest with you…
I don’t always feel that way…
Sometimes I wanna stay in bed…
And not face the challenges of the day…
Especially during the winter when it’s cold outside.
But I pray that more often than not, I wake up with the Spirit strongly guiding and motivating me…
And I pray the same for you as well.
See ya all next time.

Brother, that was SOOOOO good! Today’s post is both a God-wink and a joy. Just on my prayer walk early THIS morning, I was thanking the Lord for faithfully injecting in me what I needed to get the train moving before the sun got up. Recently, the Spirit challenged me to start getting up at 3:30, and for the first time in a long time I have had the easiest time getting up. Previously, it was out of idolatry to workout and train for basketball. Funny enough, He even reminded me this morning that, “This ain’t no ‘Mamba Mentality’; it’s the Mind of Messiah” — as if Yeshua’s own example isn’t enough to end any such arguments for those who call getting up early “super spritual.” Thank you. Love you, from Alabama.

Hey Matthew,
Glad you found this inspiring!
But 3:30 am?! Wow, that’s early brother!
Be blessed.
