“David came to Sha’ul and presented himself to him. Sha’ul took a great liking to him and made him his armor-bearer. Sha’ul sent a message to Yishai: ‘Please let David stay in my service, because I’m pleased with him.'”-1 Samuel 16:21-22
I wanna talk about something a lot of modern liberal scholars mix up due to their perverted agenda.
And when I say “perverted”, I ain’t kidding.
See the part in verse 21 where it says Saul took a “great liking” to David.
Other versions will say “Saul loved David”.
Well, the original Hebrew here is AHAB or אָהַב.
Now while it’s true that AHAB is the word for “love“, some folks wrongly suggest there was a romantic or gay relationship between Saul and David, and then later between Jonathan and David.
That’s just not true.
You don’t need to know a lot about history and language to understand that AHAB in this context doesn’t mean romantic or homosexual love.
It means to strongly accept or bring near as a trusted person.
There isn’t any sexual overtones here whatsoever.
In this case, “love” is being used to describe a special relationship between a king and someone close to him.
AHAB is more about being close and trusted, not anything romantic.
