“David came to Sha’ul and presented himself to him. Sha’ul took a great liking to him and made him his armor-bearer.”-1 Samuel 16:21
So we’re told Saul made the young David his “armor-bearer”.
However, this role isn’t exactly what the name implies.
You’re probably thinking an armor-bearer was some servant who hauled his bosses’ weaponry around wherever he traveled.
Sure, that might have been one of the duties performed.
But in this context, an “armor-bearer” was more of a title that referred to an official office in the king’s court rather than a set of duties to be performed.
Take a look at this verse from 2nd Samuel:
“Then Yo’av’s ten young armor-bearers
surrounded Avshalom,
struck him and killed him.”
-2 Samuel 18:15
Here we see that Joab had ten men under him who were called “armor-bearers”.
Probably each one held a different administrative function within the royal organization.
In David’s case, his responsibility as the court musician was to relieve the king’s depression through soothing melodies.
Now, from a divine perspective, here’s what I want you to grasp.
When King Saul made David his armor-bearer, he bestowed upon David a privileged title that carried both prestige and authority.
This was gonna prove instrumental in the events to follow that would eventually lead to David becoming king.
In other words, the takeaway is to trust God that your current circumstances, whether seemingly good or bad, are exactly where you should be at the moment…just as it was for David.
Whatever is going on in your life right now is the stepping stone for the next big and exciting step the Lord has for your life.
So don’t bitch and moan because you’re some lowly armor-bearer serving at a big and bureaucratic organization.
Or whatever you’re situation may be at the moment.
Trust, trust, trust that God is working out everything for the good in your life based on His eternal perspective.
Ya feel me?
Over and out.
