“Sha’ul was waiting at the far edge of Giv‘ah under the pomegranate tree in Migron; the force with him numbered about 600 men.”-1 Samuel 14:2
I wanna point out something interesting in the opening verses of 1st Samuel Chapter 14.
We’re told that after Saul marched his 600 men from Gilgal to Geba, he sat down under a Pomegranate tree and was just waiting there.
What in the heck was he doing?
The answer is he was aimlessly procrastinating because he wasn’t quite sure what next steps to take in this confrontation with the Philistines.
Pay attention to this because this is a perfect picture of indecisiveness and how we act when we feel stuck or unmotivated in a situation.
Can you relate?
Do you feel like everything has to be perfect and all the pieces have to be in place before you can move forward?
I imagine Saul would have been sitting under that tree for a long time if his son Jonathan hadn’t grown impatient, waiting for his dad to take action.
What Jonathan did is actually the perfect solution to indecisiveness and aimlessly dawdling when we could be doing something more productive.
What solution am I talking about?
Basically, I’m talking about getting off your butt and…
JUST DOING SOMETHING MAN!
When Saul couldn’t get the Israelites excited enough to help him fight the Philistine threat, in one fell swoop, Jonathan fixed the problem by assassinating the Philistine governor in Geba.
That one action forced a reluctant and dawdling Israel to confront the enemy.
The Philistines were so outraged at what happened they declared outright war on Israel.
The Israel clans and tribal leaders no longer had any excuse to sit on their butts “analyzing” and “debating” the situation any longer.
They had to join the fight against the Philistines or risk losing their freedom.
So that’s your takeaway for today.
If you find yourself sitting under your own Pomegranate tree just waiting for a perfect situation to arrive, forget it.
It’s never gonna happen.
So TODAY ask out that girl you’ve been interested in for months…
Reach out to and pitch that new client you’ve been eyeing for months…
Send out your resume to a company you wanna work for if you hate your current job…
Metaphorically speaking, get up and assassinate your personal Philistine governor who’s standing in your way between where you are now and where you want to go…
And then be blown away by the big changes that result.
Ya feel me?
