Have you ever looked back at the many unexpected occurrences in your life and realized God was behind everything all along?
It may not have seemed like it at the time…
But sure enough, upon reexamination, you notice the Lord’s undeniable fingerprints stamped upon the many events that resulted in where you are today.
I’m bringing this up because it’s important to remind ourselves that although it is God’s sovereignty and His divine guidance that shapes human history, everything is always carried out within the free will of human beings regardless of whether the decisions made were good or evil.
And the same principle applies to both the heroes and villains in Scripture.
Never forget that God’s Word is as filled with humanity as it is with the Lord’s holiness and divinity.
While Scripture is a record of God’s divine actions all working together towards the salvation of mankind…
Everything took place within the context of real people’s lives.
Their decisions were driven by political realities, personal and family traditions, hopes and dreams, their age and health, social trends, and so on.
That’s the way it was back then…
And that’s the way it always will be.
So let’s not lose sight of this fundamental fact of Scripture.
I’ve seen too many folks overemphasize the humanity of the Bible to the neglect of its divinity.
And I’ve seen the opposite where folks will overemphasize the divinity of the Bible to the neglect of its humanity.
Both situations lead to the strangest of doctrines and cause people to waste time arguing about ridiculous trivia while missing the big picture.
Of course, a perfect example of this is the doctrine of the trinity which turns the Scriptural “Son of God” into a freaky aberration called “God the Son”.
This is a phrase that never once appears in the writings of Yeshua’s first disciples and emissaries—and mindlessly says the Spirit of Truth, who does not speak on his own authority (John 16:13) is also the Most High God, HaShem.
So homies, keep this in mind as we make our merry way through the books of Samuel and the books of the Kings.
The characters in the Bible were driven by cultural, tribal, and political realities…
Yet behind the scenes, God’s sovereign guidance was always at work.
When we take this balanced perspective, Scripture will suddenly begin to make more sense to us.
And we’ll also begin to recognize how the Almighty has been working in our lives just as He worked in the lives of men thousands of years ago as recorded in Scripture.
We’ll also realize with the wisdom of hindsight that most of the time God’s actions were hidden from us.
But that He was still with us all the time.
Now, what could be more reassuring than that?
Abraham says
Yeah
