“Then the Spirit of Adonai will fall on you;
you will prophesy with them
and be turned into another man!
When these signs come over you,
just do whatever you feel like doing,
because God is with you.”
-1 Samuel 10:7
Verse 6 of 1 Samuel 10 tells us that after the Spirit of Adonai falls upon Saul, he will become a new man!
I don’t know if it’s possible to find a clearer verse in the Holy Bible showing us the transformation that takes place after being born again.
This just reinforces what I said in my article yesterday…
That what a lot folks mistakenly think are New Testament innovations actually have their origin in the “Old” Testament.
Ya feel me?
But in the verse afterwards it gets even better.
Saul is told to go ahead and do whatever he darn well pleases because the Lord is with Him.
Does this really mean what it says?
Can Saul really go ahead and do whatever he pleases?
I mean what if he wants to go to a Philistine whorehouse and feast on roasted pork or something?
Is that cool?
Well homies, I think we need to exercise a little commonsense here…
What this is really referring to is what happens when Saul’s mind and freewill are perfectly in sync with God’s Spirit.
Also compare what was said to Saul with what the prophet Nathan told King David:
“Whatever you have in mind,
go ahead and do it,
for Yehoveh is with you”
1 Chronicles 17:2
Again, this is all about surrendering to God’s holy impulse with the confidence that when you do so, He will direct your will and movements.
This is all about walking in the Spirit versus walking in the flesh.
Also, the original Hebrew more literally says “do what your hand finds”…
Which is saying essentially the same thing I guess.
Anyways, what’s our takeaway for today outside of the obvious lesson that you are to walk in the Spirit and not the flesh?
Here’s what’s coming to me.
The Scriptures assure us after we are born again, we have become a new creature in Messiah and the Holy Spirit of God indwells within us.
But how many of us fully accept and act on that truth?
Think about that for a sec homie.
The very Spirit that dwelled in the Tabernacle is now living inside of you….
It’s quite mind-boggling when you stop to think about it.
However, more often than not, after someone is born again, most folks go right back to their pork-eating un-kosher lifestyles.
Ya feel me?
Think about it like this.
Let’s say you are a soldier about to go into battle…
And you were given a high spec machine gun with the authority to use it if necessary…
So you throw the weapon into your backpack and head out to the battlefield.
A couple of days go by and then you’re suddenly attacked by a group of enemy soldiers.
But you forget you have the powerful weapon in your bag…
Or for whatever reason you decide not to use it and think it might be better to “rely on your own flesh” to fight this particular battle.
The result?
You get slaughtered and end up lying wounded on the battleground.
So putting the obvious weaknesses of this analogy aside, this is exactly what happens to a good number of believers everyday when they face temptation.
They don’t use the spiritual weapons the Lord has given them to fight their battles…
Nor do they fully surrender to the Holy Spirit dwelling within them.
What good are the spiritual gifts the Lord has given you if you don’t use them?
So that’s your takeaway for today.
Fully embrace and accept your new identity along with the spiritual weapons you’ve been gifted with.

CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Use all the armor and
weaponry that God provides,
so that you will be able
to stand against the deceptive
tactics of the Adversary.
For we are not struggling against
human beings, but against the rulers,
authorities and cosmic powers
governing this darkness,
against the spiritual forces of evil
in the heavenly realm.
So take up every piece of
war equipment God provides;
so that when the evil day comes,
you will be able to resist;
and when the battle is won,
you will still be standing.”
-Ephesians 6:11-13
“Therefore if any man be in Messiah,
he is a new creature:
old things are passed away;
behold, all things
are become new.”
-2 Corinthians 5:17
“So I say, walk by the Spirit,
and you will not gratify
the desires of the flesh.”
-Galatians 5:16
“Don’t you realize that all
of you together are the
temple of God and that
the Spirit of God lives in you?”
-1 Corinthians 3:16
