“Bat-Sheva bowed with her face to the ground, prostrating herself to the king, and said, ‘Let my lord King David live forever.’“-1 Kings 1:31
When Bathsheba said to David that she hoped he would live forever, there is another element to what she was saying apart from what we discussed yesterday.
She was referring to the ancient belief that a man’s life essence lived on through his offspring.
In David’s case, his line would continue through his son Solomon and then through Solomon’s sons.
So, in a very real sense, David’s kingship would be forever.
Bathsheba’s words would have been very comforting to David.
This leads to a key takeaway.
Have you ever wondered why those genealogies in the beginning chapters of Luke and Matthew are so important?
It’s because they tie in with God’s promise to David that his dynasty would be eternal and would never be replaced with another.
That’s why.
When you place your faith in Yeshua of Nazareth, you too join David’s royal line.
You are connecting yourself to a Kingdom established in heaven that will have no end.
I dunno about you, but I can’t think of anything cooler than that.
Ya feel me?
Done.
