“As for you, my lord the king, all Israel is watching you; they are waiting for you to tell them who is to sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. If you don’t, then, when my lord the king sleeps with his ancestors, I and my son Shlomo will be considered criminals.”-1 Kings 1:20-21
Picking up where we left off yesterday, Bathsheba tells David the shocking news that Adoniyah has crowned himself king.
And that he has been officially coronated by the High Priest Evyatar with the full support of David’s military commander, Joab.
What Bathsheba is essentially telling David is that his son, Adoniyah, has betrayed him by attempting to take the King’s throne prematurely before his death.
Bathsheba then starts naming names and exposing the traitors who had chosen to go against David.
Finally, in verse 20, she begs David to make an official announcement that Solomon will be the next king.
She explains that the only reason people were taken in by Adoniyah’s pretenses is that David had been silent on the matter.
Only a few people inside the palace were aware that David had chosen Solomon to inherit the throne.
The common citizens of Israel were clueless.
And frankly speaking, your average Hebrew had no reason to expect Solomon to be king.
Most folks would’ve assumed Adoniyah would be next since he was the next son in line.
On top of that, Solomon just wasn’t the obvious choice.
He was in his late teens, and he was the product of a scandalous and adulterous relationship.
Alrighty, I’m in a hurry today, man.
I don’t mean to phone today’s post in, but I gotta close this pronto because today has been absolutely nuts.
But hey, I’m still here, showing up every day, blogging through the Scripture.
So here’s your takeaway for today.
When leaders stay silent, chaos fills the gap.
Ya feel me?
Adoniyah was only able to make his move because David had not spoken publicly about who the next king would be.
And when a leader refuses to speak up clearly…
Others will step in and write the story for him.
That’s why, as I said yesterday, it is so important to take a firm stand for the Lord in all areas of your life…both personal and professional.
Otherwise, the devil will step in and fill that vacuum for you.
It’s either…
Porno or prayer.
Lust or the Lord.
Or darkness or the light.
Ya feel me?
Done.
