So Adoniyah is throwing a party to celebrate his future kingship…or so he thinks.
The banquet was taking place right outside the fortress walls that surrounded the City of David.
The area was only about 300 meters down the hill in the southern part of the town.
The point being, not only was this celebration taking place in a public place…
The festivities were happening right under the nose of his father.
It’s painfully obvious that Adoniyah could’ve cared less about keeping his intentions under wraps.
Well, David’s prophet Nathan catches wind of what’s happening and goes into a full-blown panic.
He sprints over to Solomon’s mother, Bathsheba, to see if she knows what’s happening.
Now, here’s the thing.
Nathan was misunderstanding what was really going on.
He thinks Adoniyah has already proclaimed himself to be king.
Now, why would he think that?
Because the banquet was taking place by a water source, where immersion takes place.
If the significance of that point flew over your head, this next point won’t.
The High Priest, Evyatar, was also there with the very holy oil used to anoint Israel’s kings.
In other words, all the ingredients for a full-blown coronation were in place here!
Even though that’s NOT what was actually happening.
Nathan was fearing the worst.
But it was just a hot air balloon!
This leads to today’s takeaway.
Satan loves to intimidate God’s people by putting on a big show complete with fireworks and lavish displays of opulence.
But it’s all a bunch of hot air with no substance.
So you shouldn’t be taken in by all of the noise.
Because that’s all it is.
Just a bunch of noise that the Lord will put a stop to in His own good timing.
Ya feel me?
Done.
CONNECTING THIS TEACHING TO THE NEW TESTAMENT
“Again, the devil took him to
a very high mountain and
showed him all the kingdoms
of the world and their splendor.
‘All this I will give you,’ he said,
‘If you will bow down and worship me.‘
Yeshua said to him,
‘Away from me, Satan!
For it is written:
‘Worship the Lord your God,
and serve him only.”
-Matthew 4:8-10
